RELATION BETWEEN COVID-19 AND PERIODONTITIS DISEASE

Dr. Pratibha Chaudhary,Dr. Pravesh Mehra,Dr. Ali Asger Nakib

Abstract: Periodontitis disease is a chronic multifactorial inflammatory disease characterized by progressive destruction of the periodontium. Though the bacterial biofilm accumulation and maturation initiates gingival inflammation, progression of periodontal disease occurs consequent to the host response and dysbiotic changes in the microbiome. Various concomitant factors have been associated with PD such as diabetes, obesity, aging, hypertension, and so on; although, underlying mechanisms or causal associations have not been established completely. Interestingly, these same factors have been widely associated with progression or severe coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), an illness caused by coronavirus SARS-CoV-2. Coronavirus infection has become a matter of serious concern for the world these days. Due to the continuous production of aerosol in periodontal clinics and because of the fact that the virus remains alive for 12 h, periodontists are highly susceptible for the same. This article is an attempt to throw light on coronavirus infection and how it has put a hault to periodontits clinical practice.

A COMPARATIVE EVALUATION OF EFFICACY OF AUTOGENOUS BONE GRAFT AND BIOACTIVE GLASS ALLOPLAST IN THE TREATMENT OF INTRAOSSEOUS PERIODONTAL DEFECTS- A CLINICO-RADIOLOGICAL STUDY

Dr. Pratibha Chaudhary,Dr. Amandeep Dhillon,Dr. Sujata Masamatti,Dr. Vidya Dodwad,Dr. Subhra Vaish,Dr. Nikhil .

Abstract: Aim : The aim of this study was to compare the efficacy of autogenous bone graft and bioactive glass in the treatment of infrabony periodontal defects. Material and methods: The present study is a randomized controlled trial of 6 months duration with intrabony defects of three and two wall defects which were equally divided into test and control groups. Results : The mean Pocket depth decreased significantly (p<0.05) from baseline to 6 months in the control group and test groups. Conclusion: Periodontal osseous surgery tends to improve the clinical condition of gingiva of the patient leading to enhanced clinical results of periodontal therapy in periodontally affected sites.

NON-COMPLIANCE CLASS II CORRECTION WITH PENDULUM APPLIANCE: A CASE REPORT

Dr. Prateeti Pal,Dr. Rupam Kumari,Dr. Rajani Nair,Dr. Nilanjana Ghatak

Abstract: Over the past few decades, non-extraction treatment has been gaining increasing popularity for corrections of mild to moderate class II malocclusions, with a correct diagnosis. An option for creating space in the maxillary arch is to move the molars distally. Such distalization of maxillary molars may be utilized for gaining enough space in the maxillary arch for obtaining stable class I molar and canine relationships, without opting for bicuspid extraction. This is particularly useful in case of non-compliant patients. With new biomaterials evolving in the field of orthodontics and with proper understanding of mechanical forces at play, various authors have come up with different appliances for achieving this goal. Here, we present a case report, where, the Hilger's Pendulum appliance had been used for bilateral maxillary molar distalization in a patient with Class II Division 2 malocclusion with acceptable facial profile. The space gained was utilized effectively to align the arch and establish a class I molar and canine relation.

BICHAT'S FAT PAD IN CLOSURE OF OAF: REVIEW OF LITERATURE WITH A CASE REPORT

Dr. Abhinaba Bose,Dr. Sudipto Sahu,Dr. Mayukh Misra,Dr. Oishee Mukherjee

Abstract: Oro-antral communication (OAC) results from various reasons; however the extraction of the maxillary posterior teeth is the most frequent one. When OACs persist for more than 12 days, it is likely to form oro-antral fistula (OAF) that contain an epithelial tract. This is due to the close relationship between the apex of these teeth and the floor of the maxillary sinus (antrum). Various surgical options exist to treat such cases including buccal advancement flap, palatal rotation flap and buccal fat pad (BFP), while the last one being one of the most versatile and reliable. The aim of this paper is to report a case of oroantral fistula treated successfully with BFP graft, the technique associated with it and a brief review of the literature.

SIMULTANEOUS INTRUSION AND RETRACTION USING MINISCREWS IN A CLASS I BI-MAXILLARY PROTRUSION: A CASE REPORT

Dr. Subhas Seth,Dr. Mita Mandal,Dr. Manish Jha,Dr. Anusree Paul

Abstract: Class l bi-maxillary protrusion is one of the most common malocclusion encountered in day to day clinical practice. Traditional treatment protocol comprises of extraction of all first premolars followed by maximum retraction of incisors for significant dental and soft tissue changes. This case report represents a therapeutic protocol for the management of class1bi-maxillary protrusion in a late adolescent patient with slightly increased maxillary incisors visibility at rest and lip incompetency treated with all first premolar extractions and four mini-screws that were used for simultaneous intrusion and retraction. Noticeable amount of dental and soft tissue corrections resulted in significant improvement in facial and smile esthetics both static as well as dynamic.

MARYLAND BRIDGES - AN INTERIM PROSTHESIS FORREPLACEMENT OF MISSING ANTERIOR TOOTH : A CASE REPORT

Dr. Piyali Bhattacharya,Dr. Uttam Kumar Sen,Dr. Ankan Kumar Maji,Dr. Sanjit Lal Das,Dr. Arindam Karmakar

Abstract: Restoring the missing anterior tooth in young patient possess a challenge, especially in the mandibular arch. As the anterior tooth loss is associated with a psychological impact, there is also a restorative challenge. As the adjacent abutment teeth are small in size, planning a conventional fixed prosthesis in young patient may possess tooth hypersentivity and also, pulpal exposure. In such cases, a resin bonded Fixed partial Denture such as a Maryland Bridge fulfills the requirements of an ideal interim restoration. A Maryland bridge requires minimum tooth preparation; the abutment tooth preparation is usually limited to enamel, hence the chances for pulpal exposure is less. Also, the finish line is usually supra-gingival, easy to maintain the gingival hygiene for patients. Also easy to prepare, locate and make impression for dentists.

NON-SURGICAL MANAGEMENT OF ADULT MUTILATED SKELETAL CLASS III MALOCCLUSION -A MULTIDISCIPLINARY APPROACH

Dr. Partha Pratim Choudhury,Dr. Ekta Lahoti

Abstract: Orthodontics for adult patients is increasingly gaining popularity. For treatment of adult Class III malocclusion, different methods have been practised. In the case presented here, the class III malocclusion was treated by extracting lower first premolars, using TADs for anchorage, intrusion utility arch for lower anterior intrusion and fixed prosthesis for replacing missing upper right lateral incisorto establish normal overbite, overjet and deliver best possible occlusion, esthetics and stability.
