Abstract: Temporomandibular joint ankylosis is one of the most common pathologies affecting the facial skeleton in the developing countries. Patients encounter difficulties in mastication, digestion, speech, function, cosmesis, maintenance of oral hygiene1acute compromise of airway which further invariably results in physical & psychological disability.1-2 This paper looks into different treatment protocols for comprehensive treatment of TMJ ankylosis associated with / without dentofacial deformities which includes different reconstruction options after release, needs for oseodistraction or not & also controversies regarding the release of ankylosis with osteodistraction including our experiences. 30 patients suffering from TMJ ankylosis visited the Department of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery, Gurunanak Institute Of Dental Sciences & Research, Kolkata, India from 2009 to till date are included in this study

Abstract: Since the advent of LASERs, the applications of it have revolutionized the treatment modalities in medical field. It has been used as an useful tool for periodontal therapy. So many researchers have studied the usefulness of LASERs in the field of Periodontics. Even though it has some limitations it is now very popular among periodontists. More research is necessary to establish its empire in periodontal therapy. The purpose of this article is to enlighten the uses of LASERs in both non-surgical and surgical periodontal therapies.
Abstract: Therapeutic approaches to periodontal regeneration in the past have utilized bone replacement grafts, growth factors, barrier membranes or combinations of these approaches. More recently, enamel extracellular matrix proteins have been introduced to stimulate periodontal regeneration. This article attempts to enlighten its readers with the role of enamel matrix protein in periodontal regeneration.

Abstract: Supernumerary teeth are the teeth formed in excess of that found in the normal series. Prevalence of supernumerary teeth in primary dentition varies between 0.05% to 0.64% in different populations. This article presents a case of an 8 years 5months old boy with supplemental primary maxillary lateral incisor without its permanent successor, with no clinical features of any syndrome .

Abstract: Numeric disturbances in the human dentition are quite a common occurrence in the general population. When less than the normal teeth develops, it is termed as hypodontia, whereas hyperdontia is a condition with an excess number of teeth developing. Therefore, though both conditions manifest as changes in the number of teeth, they represent the opposite ends of the spectrum in the development of the dentition. The literature contains numerous reports of the exclusive occurrence of these anomalies; however coexistent oligodontia, hypodontia, and supernumerary teeth or hyperdontia is a rare manifestation of the human dentition

Abstract: Odontomas are benign odontogenic tumours composed of enamel dentin , cementum and pulp tissue. They are usually clinically asymptomatic, but are often associated with disturbances in tooth eruption and cystic changes. The present study reports an unusual case report of bilateral compound odontomas in mandible in 14 yrs old boy with unerupted second premolar bilaterally. Radiograph reveals a dense radio-opaque lesion associated to impacted premolar. The histological examination revealed compound odontomas.

Abstract: Dens Invaginatus is an anomaly of the tooth formation of embryonic origin that presents itself in several morphologic types. The complex anatomy of these teeth makes nonsurgical endodontic treatment complex and more so when its apex is immature. The case reported illustrates the nonsurgical endodontic management of a Dens Invaginatus type II and periapical lesion using a Biodentine® (Septodont). A 14-month follow-up of the case shows a complete periapical healing with bone formation at the site of the lesion.

Abstract: Fibrosarcoma in the head and neck region is a rare entity. The advent of immuohistochemistry and electron microscopy has added a new dimension in its clinicopathological differentiation from other types of spindle cell lesions. Fibrosarcoma can be primary, or secondary due to other bony lesions like Paget's disease, Osteomyelitis etc. In this neoplasm there is malignant proliferation of fibroblast which can cause local recurrences or metastasis. Herring bone pattern of the pleomorphic fibroblasts can be seen histopathologically. In this case report, a 70 year old patient presented with a large, diffuse, fleshy swelling involving the body of the mandible and the left side of the associated soft tissues. Immunohistochemically, the cells only showed immunoreactivity for vimentin and negativity for S-100 protein, pancytokeratin, desmin. Based on, clinical, radiological, histopathological and immunohistochemical findings the final diagnosis was given as fibrosarcoma.

Abstract: Ameloblastomas are a slow growing, locally invasive benign tumors of jaw. They are odontogenic in origin on the basis of histologic similarities of the tumor and the developing enamel organ. There are six histopathological variants of ameloblastoma among which, acanthomatous type is a rare variant that has distinct features. This report describes a case on an acanthomatous ameloblastoma involving the anterior mandible extending to the body of the mandible occurring in a 60 years old patient.

Abstract: Salivary gland neoplasms form a diverse group of tumours with different histological characteristics and clinical behaviour patterns. Adenoid cystic carcinomais a relatively rare malignant salivary gland tumourcomprising less than 1% of all malignancies of head and neck. It has a deceptively benign histologic appearance. The clinical course is characterized by indolent, locally invasive growth with high propensity for local recurrence and distant metastasis.Though the combination of surgery and postoperative radiation therapy has improved loco-regional control of the disease yet late local recurrence and distant metastasis rates remain high and may occur decades after initial diagnosis. So, long term follow up of such patients is essential. We present a case of Adenoid cystic carcinoma affecting the orbit, maxillary sinus, and palate of a 35 year old female patient with a brief literature review and highlight the importance of histopathology in making correct diagnosis.

Abstract: The injuries to the dentofacial region are one of the most common concerns which brings a patient to the dentist. Intrusive luxation is the form of traumatic injury in which the affected tooth is forced to be displaced deeper into the alveolus. As a consequence, maximum damage occurs to the pulp and all the supporting structures. This is a case report of an intrusive luxation injury in a 35 year old patient and the diagnosis, prognosis and treatment modalities associated with the same.

Abstract: The aim of this report is to present the case of an accidentally avulsed 11 during surgical repositioning of traumatically intruded 11 and 21 kept in saline solution from the moment of avulsion until its reimplantation 45mins later. Avulsion of permanent teeth is one of the serious dental injuries, and a prompt and correct emergency management is very important for the prognosis The avulsed tooth was replanted back into the alveolar socket and splinted, endodontic treatment was done followed by post obturation restoration. Radiographic and clinical examinations at 10 months follow up revealed satisfactory healing. Amount of damage to the tooth, storage medium, extra oral time, promptness of rendering emergency treatment, etc all play a role in the prognosis of the avulsed tooth.
